Hello, my name is Michelle, and I am the Sole-Proprietor
of andrea michael's personalized gift-baskets. I was
born to a family of six children, and was raised in New Bedford and Dartmouth,
Massachusetts. I am a proud parent of two beautiful children named Michelle
Andrea and Vaughn Michael. I was also blessed with a gorgeous
grandson named Kadence Juleon.
Being brought up in a strong family has taught me great values. They made it easy for me to treat others with respect and to interact with all types of people.
Somehow, going to
college and working for many different attorneys really didn't please me. I was
tired of seeing so many unhappy people that felt unnoticed and unappreciated.
That is when I became a Mental Health Counselor. For years I assisted many
people of diverse backgrounds. I also enjoyed working with disadvantaged youth,
but for some reason I still was not pleased. I felt that working under someone
else's authority restricted me from working with people to my full potential.
Counseling, conducting workshops, preventing suicides and keeping kids out of
trouble was extremely rewarding, but I knew I had extra talents that I wanted
to "un-bury". I decided to go back to my childhood treasure chest and dig out
all of my talents and hobbies. I feel that my purpose on earth is to connect
with people, because that is what I do best. I knew it was time to bring out my
artistic side and combine that to me being a humanitarian. Creating
personalized gifts is the best thing I have ever done. It gives me the
opportunity to show others just how important they really are. We live in a
tough world, and we all need to be acknowledged.
Since the age of
twenty I have struggled as a single parent, and I was diagnosed with Major
Depression, Severe Anxiety and Post Tramatic Stress Disorder in my early 30's,
which had enabled me to accomplish my dreams since I was a young child. I also
suffered shattered bones in a tragic automobile accident, which had disabled me
for over a year. Severe damages were made to my mouth and head, which were both
sewn together due to me being embedded in the dashboard. My broken body was
found in a fetal position. Nuts and bolts held my hip and leg in place until I
could learn to walk again. My right arm was broken in half with my nerves
severed in between the breaks. I no longer had use of it. The hardest part was
lying on my back in a hospital bed for months not knowing how my children would
be cared for. My sister Pam and her son had to move in with us. I do know what
it is like to go through life's hardships, but my experiences have always given
me hope to help others even though it took me a very long time to recover.
Being a Christian has also helped me, because I have faith that I will succeed
in growing my business. I want to continue to make a difference and be an
inspiration in other people's lives so they can do the same for themselves. My
gifts bring smiles, and there is no better feeling on earth to know that I will
bring more.
I would like to thank my children, family and friends who have inspired me to run my own business, Corinn, the Executive Director and Brian, the Program Coordinator of the Community Economic Development Center for giving me the proper tools and advice to see me through, Paula, my Business Consultant for taking me under her wing and giving me the confidence and wisdom that I needed to become successful, Melinda, from the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional SBDC for her guidance in helping me become successful, Jacquie, from JS Web Solutions for creating the most beautiful web-site for me, Egidio, the Business Banking Representative at Santander Bank for assisting me in the banking aspect of my business and for offering his marketing expertice, David, from Oliveira-Biggs & You Communications for conducting a wonderful small-business workshop and assisting me in writing a wonder business plan, my Physician, Dr. Rizwan Mufti and my Counselor Andrea, for taking care of my mental health and well-being. Their guidance has lead me to the right path to better my life and career. I would also like to extend a special thanks to my second family at Heritage House in New Bedford for always being the most wonderful individuals on earth and my dearest friends who have always told me that I CAN DO IT! I am extremely grateful to you all.
